MY FAVORITE AUTHORS
One of the best gifts my mother gave me is the love of reading. As a voracious reader, I love diving into the pages of a good book.
Some of my favorite thought-provoking storytellers include Maeve Binchy, Barbara Delinsky, Dorothea Benton Frank, Liane Moriarty, .Jodi Picoult, and Jennifer Weiner.
I'm also an adrenaline junkie who enjoys white-knuckle, throat-gripping plot lines that make my heart race. My favorite authors in the suspense/thriller genre include David Baldacci, Robert Bryndza, Robert Duggoni, Keith Houghton, Iris Johansen, and Hank Phillippi Ryan.
My all-time favorite books include My Grandmother Asked Me to Tell You She's Sorry (Fredrik Backman), The Art of Racing in the Rain (Garth Stein), Atlas Shrugged (Ayn Rand), and When Breath Becomes Air (Paul Kalanithi).
My favorite childhood books include Time at the Top (Edward Ormondroyd), Harriet the Spy ( Louise Fitzhugh), Nancy Drew (Carolyn Keene), A Wrinkle in Time (Madeleine L'Engle), From the Mixed-Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler (E. L. Konigsburg), and Black and Blue Magic (Zilpha Keatley Snyder).
BEHIND THE SCENES
Before I sit down to write at my desk, I clear it of everything except for two items—my laptop and a tea light candle. Once I light the wick, the flame is my “contract” to stay seated and continue writing until it goes out of its own accord.
Here's a link to my Goodreads page where you can check my bookshelves to see what I'm currently reading.
THINGS PEOPLE MAY BE SURPRISED TO LEARN ABOUT ME
Growing up, I wanted to be a magician, international spy, and a mad scientist. There’s still time!
Many people think I’m an extrovert when, in reality, I’m an ambivert—an outgoing introvert.
I walked across Scotland, a 211-mile journey from the North Sea to the Atlantic Ocean. At the mid-point, I climbed Ben Nevis, the highest point in the British Isles.
I took sign languages classes at The Center on Deafness in Northbrook, IL for two years.
Red licorice is to me, what kryptonite is to Superman—my weakness.
I've walked away from two car accidents where each time the first responders shook their heads in disbelief, saying, "Nobody could have survived this!"
My superpower is listening between the lines and hearing what's not being said.
